Privacy policy

Sara, the self-hosted AI companion and assistant, and its iPhone and Android apps. Last updated: October 24, 2026.

The short version

What your own server stores

Everything you use Sara for: conversations, what she remembers about you, to-dos and reminders, photos you send or she makes, voice settings and connections you set up. It stays on your server and in the backups you choose to make. You can export it or delete it at any time (Settings → Data & health). Conversations marked off the record are never written to disk.

Services you choose to connect

Your server sends data to outside services only when you set them up, and only what each needs:

The phone apps

The demo server

If you choose Try the demo, you chat with our demo server. Demo conversations are kept in memory only, are never saved to disk, are visible only to you, and disappear after a few hours of inactivity. Please don't share personal information there. Replies come from an AI model run by our server's model provider.

Reporting a reply

You can report any reply with ⚑. The report is kept on your server. Unless you untick it, it is also sent to us as the app's developer, containing only that reply's text, the reason you chose and your note (plus the app platform, version and model name), so we can improve safety. We keep reports for up to two years and don't link them to you.

Children

Sara is meant for adults. It is not directed at children, and sexual content involving minors is always blocked.

Your choices

Since your data is on your server, you control it: export, delete, or uninstall at any time. To ask us about a report you sent, or anything in this policy, email the developer at the contact address on Sara's App Store or Google Play page (see also the support page).

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
